What to look for when purchasing a crate?
How does the door latch work? Ours is a rotary style latch that works just like your car door. These are the safest design.
Are there sharp edges inside that could hurt my dog? We design our crates from the beginning to make sure there is nothing inside that can hurt your dog.
How is the door attached? Will it stand up to daily use over the years? We use a heavy duty stainless steel piano hinge that will last a lifetime.
Is this crate going to be easy to clean? Our crates come standard with a metal slide out pan that is sprayed with bedliner.
How noisy is my crate setup going to be? Our crates are dead silent. We use heavy gauge aluminum that is completely TIG welded to create the safest crates out there.
How long will a Kustom Krate last?
The adage that you get what you pay for is in force at Kustom Krates. What you get with Kustom Krates is superior quality and durability that looks fantastic. We sell to a lot of police departments that use and abuse these crates on a daily basis. We have crates still in use from over 15 years ago.
What model of Cars and SUV's are best suited for a Kustom Krate?
Our crates are designed to fit in the vehicle you choose. However, these are our customers' favorite dog cars and SUV's. Chevy Tahoe/Yukon, Ford Expedition, Ford Explorer, Toyota and Honda Mini Vans, Chrysler Town & Country, Honda Pilot, just to name a few. If you're in the market for a new car, give us a call and let us help you get a great dog car.
What is your cancellation policy?
A 50% deposit is collected at the time of the order and is non-refundable if the order is cancelled before production begins. Cancellations after production begins are not allowed.
Why don't your crates fold up?
These crates are designed around the premise that we want to offer you the safest crate you can buy for your dog. They are computer designed and completely welded using a process called Tungsten Inert Gas welding. This is a more expensive welding process and is used on race cars and anywhere safety is a concern. There are no sharp edges inside our crates and every effort is made to make sure the dog is safe and secure.
Can I buy a Gift Certificate for someone?
Absolutely!
How much does a Kustom Krate weigh?
A single Kustom Krate weighs approximately 50lbs. Don't let that discourage you though, due to our modular design, you can easily move your crate in and out of your vehicle.
Do I need to secure my Kustom Krate to the floor?
The best answer is yes. We offer lots of options depending on the setup and vehicle.
How Durable is the non-skid surface??
We went to great lengths to find a non skid surface that would take the abuse.
Why would I need a platform?
Some cargo floors are not level with the hatch opening and our custom fit platforms provide a flat level surface.
How long does will it take for me to get my Kustom Krate?
Lead times vary, generally 1-3 weeks for single crates, and 6-8 weeks for multi dog set ups.
What kind of deposit does Kustom Krates require?
There is a 50% deposit required at time of order placement, with the balance due at the start of the build.
Are they easy to remove from the car when I am not carrying my dogs.
Yes, our latch system and modular design make our crates easy to remove.
How can I be sure the crate I order will fit in my car/SUV?
We take care of that for you. One of the main services that you get with a Kustom Krate is the confidence/guarantee that your set up WILL fit in your vehicle. We use computer aided design software and real cars to design our crates and get the most possible use of available space.
Will my set up fit in my next vehicle?
That is a tough question. Cars keep getting smaller. Most full size SUV's will stay 48" wide for the foreseeable future. But definitely not something we can guarantee.
What size crate should I get for my dog?
This is the hardest question of all. One thing we have learned over the years is that everyone is different. One person wants their dogs in the Taj Mahal, and the next person will put three dogs in that same crate. We can give you an approximate size, but we haven't seen your dog, might not know you so well, and can't guarantee you will be happy with a size we suggest. Measure the inside of a current crate if possible. Or wall off a small corner of a room and throw a cookie in that area to see how your dog goes in and turns around. Keep in mind, your dog is safer in a crate that they are touching three sides.
